About Me

Dr. David A. Saperstein is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who has dedicated his career to caring for patients with retinal conditions. He received advanced fellowship training at Emory University School of Medicine and the National Eye Institute, and has served on the faculty at Emory University and the University of Washington. Dr. Saperstein has been actively involved in clinical trials studying new treatments for conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, retinal detachment, and inherited retinal disease. He takes pride in translating complex medical knowledge into everyday language to help patients understand their vision problems and treatment options.

In addition to medical management of retinal disease, Dr. Saperstein has been performing retinal surgery since 1993. He has served as chief retinal surgeon at Grady Hospital in Atlanta and Harborview Hospital in Seattle, performing thousands of straightforward and complex retinal surgeries. He has also been responsible for teaching retinal surgery to young physicians. Dr. Saperstein has contributed to textbooks on retinal surgery and holds several US and foreign patents for drugs, surgical devices, and low vision devices. The drugs he has developed are currently in clinical trials for inherited retinal diseases and age-related changes in the retina.
