About Me

Dr. Sumayya Ahmad is a cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery specialist at Mount Sinai. She joined the system in 2016 and cares for adults with conditions such as keratoconus, dry eye, and cataracts, offering medical therapy and advanced surgical options when needed. Patients value her clear communication and the time she takes to explain choices so they can decide on care that fits their vision needs and daily life.

Dr. Ahmad earned her MD from the Yale School of Medicine, completed an internal medicine internship at Mount Sinai West/Morningside, and trained in ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins. She then pursued fellowship training in Cornea and External Diseases at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. She is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, serves as an Associate Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and speaks English, Punjabi, Urdu, and Spanish. Her clinical research explores trends in myopia, astigmatism, and ocular surface disease.
