About Me

Dr. Frances Wu is a vitreoretinal surgeon and ocular oncologist who cares for adults with retinal disease and eye tumors at Mass Eye and Ear. She offers comprehensive medical and surgical management of conditions such as uveal melanoma, retinal detachments, macular holes, and complications from diabetes or vascular disease. Her approach is collaborative and patient-centered, coordinating closely with oncology, radiation therapy, and medical retina colleagues to tailor treatment plans that protect vision and support overall health. After undergraduate study at Harvard College, Dr. Wu earned her medical degree at the University of California San Diego. She completed internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Mass Eye and Ear. Clinically, she uses advanced diagnostics, laser therapy, and pars plana vitrectomy techniques, and counsels patients on long-term surveillance for ocular tumors and systemic cancer involvement. Patients appreciate her clear explanations, careful follow-up, and commitment to preserving sight during complex care.
