Rachel Downes, MD, is a vitreoretinal surgeon who treats the full spectrum of medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous. She cares for adults with conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, and macular hole, and performs advanced microsurgery when needed. Dr. Downes completed medical school at New York University, an internship at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, ophthalmology residency at Cleveland Clinic, and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Cole Eye Institute. His clinical interests include medical management, laser trabeculoplasty, and both minimally invasive and traditional glaucoma surgeries, with careful coordination of cataract care in glaucoma patients when appropriate.

Dr. Kristen Ann V. Mendoza is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and glaucoma surgery. She enjoys working with patients to match treatment to lifestyle—whether that’s planning cataract surgery, optimizing glaucoma drops, or discussing laser and surgical options when medications aren’t enough. With experience as a chief resident and assistant professor, she brings a teaching mindset to each visit and ensures patients leave with a clear plan. Dr. Mendoza completed medical school and ophthalmology residency at The Ohio State University, serving as Chief Resident at the Havener Eye Institute, followed by a glaucoma fellowship at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. She also completed a transitional-year internship at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. She remains active in research and has presented nationally on the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma.
