About Me

Dr. Sonia Mehta is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon on the Retina Service at Wills Eye Hospital, a nationally recognized center for ophthalmic care and research. She serves as Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and is actively involved in the education and mentorship of residents, fellows, and visiting physicians.

Her clinical expertise includes the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, macular holes, macular pucker, retinal detachment, cataract surgery-related diseases, and other vitreoretinal disorders. Dr. Mehta serves as an investigator in leading multicenter clinical trials studying age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, uveitis, and advances in vitreoretinal surgery.

Dr. Mehta is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care while advancing the field of retina through clinical research, education, and mentorship. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on vitreoretinal diseases and is an invited speaker at national and international ophthalmology meetings.
