About Me
Dr. Sohani Amarasekera is a vitreoretinal surgeon who cares for the full spectrum of medical and surgical retina conditions. She offers advanced treatment for retinal detachment, macular holes and epiretinal membranes, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vascular occlusions, and provides longitudinal care for age-related macular degeneration. Her consultations emphasize education and shared decision-making so patients understand their diagnosis, the timing of surgery or injections, and what to expect during recovery.
Dr. Amarasekera earned a BA from the University of Pennsylvania, completed an MPH at the University of Cambridge, received her MD from New York Medical College, and trained in ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she also completed a surgical retina fellowship and served as chief resident. She enjoys mentoring trainees and partnering with referring doctors to deliver coordinated, evidence-based care close to home.
