About Me
Thomas R. Friberg, MD, FACS, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh. He serves as Director of Medical and Surgical Retinal Diseases, with clinical focus on conditions affecting the retina. Dr. Friberg treats macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachment, and has special interests in drug delivery strategies and advanced retinal imaging.
He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of several professional societies including the Retina Society and the Macula Society. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Friberg is actively involved in research and has served as principal investigator for numerous clinical trials, particularly in macular degeneration. He also contributes to the education of retinal fellows, residents, and medical students. Dr. Friberg is well known nationally and internationally, having served as Editor in Chief of Seminars in Ophthalmology and as a grant reviewer for the NIH.
