Dr. Rumya Rao

Dr. Rumya Rao is a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina specialist with nearly two decades of experience in diagnosing and treating complex retinal conditions. She sees patients through the Retina Institute of Illinois, with office locations in Niles, Crystal Lake, Gurnee, and Chicago.

Dr. Rao’s clinical expertise includes diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, macular holes and puckers, retinal detachments and tears, retinal vein occlusions, and uveitis. She is dedicated to providing thorough, compassionate care to each patient.

Dr. Rao earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed her ophthalmology residency at Northwestern University’s McGaw Medical Center. She then pursued a prestigious retina fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. She speaks conversational Spanish.
