Dr. Sanders is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds clinical professorships at Georgetown University and Howard University medical schools. He has served as Chief of the Retina Service at Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center since 2001 and has been actively involved in research, serving as a principal investigator for landmark treatments such as Lucentis for wet age-related macular degeneration.

Dr. Sanders has been consistently recognized for his clinical skills, receiving honors such as Washingtonian "Top Doctor," "Best Doctors in America," and "America's Top Ophthalmologists" multiple times, and was a charter inductee into the Retina Hall of Fame in 2017.
