About Me
Dr. James D. Kim is a fellowship trained and board certified retina specialist at Indiana Retina Center. He is passionate about providing the best care for patients with retinal disease. Dr. Kim has an interesting international background, having been born in South Korea and lived in Argentina and Australia before coming to the United States. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and holds Master of Science degrees in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University and in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University, where he also received his Doctor of Medicine degree.
Dr. Kim completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where he served as chief resident and was awarded the Silver Scalpel Award for superior surgical skills, Best Research Awards for outstanding achievement in ophthalmology research, and the Resident Citizenship Award. He then completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Eye Institute of the Medical College of Wisconsin, one of the premier retina fellowships in the country. He has extensive medical and surgical training in retinal diseases including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular hole repair, and complex retinal detachments.
Dr. Kim has been involved in research for many years including with the National Institute of Health and Johns Hopkins Medical Institute. He has numerous research publications in top medical journals and book chapters and has presented his work at national and international meetings. He is a fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Medical Association, and the American College of Physicians.
