About Me
Dr. James A. Staman is a board-certified, fellowship-trained vitreoretinal specialist who established Florida Retina Institute in 1979. He provides expert care for a wide range of retinal conditions, including retinal detachment, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, and retinal vein occlusion.
Dr. Staman completed his medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine, followed by an internship at Pennsylvania Hospital and an ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida. He then underwent specialized vitreoretinal fellowship training at Barnes Hospital.
He holds board certifications from the American Board of Ophthalmology and the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Staman is affiliated with UF Health Jacksonville and St. Vincent's Medical Center, and he holds a clinical assistant professorship with the Jacksonville Health Education Program. He has been recognized with the Physician Service Award and membership in Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.
