About Me
Dr. Jacob Kanter is a glaucoma specialist and cataract surgeon at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Medicine. He cares for the full spectrum of open-angle and angle-closure glaucoma and offers both micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and traditional glaucoma operations based on each patient’s disease severity and goals. In clinic, he performs laser procedures such as selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), laser peripheral iridotomy, and YAG capsulotomy, and he routinely combines cataract surgery with glaucoma procedures when appropriate.
Dr. Kanter earned his MD from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, completed ophthalmology residency at University of Chicago Medicine, and pursued fellowship training in Glaucoma at Johns Hopkins. His academic interests include clinical trials of new glaucoma surgeries and the use of home tonometry to better understand pressure fluctuations outside the office. Patients value his clear explanations, collaborative decision-making, and steady surgical care.
