Dr. Gavin T. Reed is a vitreoretinal surgeon who treats the full spectrum of medical and surgical retina conditions. An Alabama native, he studied at the University of Alabama and completed a master’s degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham before earning his MD from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He finished ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida, where he served as chief resident, and completed a vitreoretinal diseases and surgery fellowship at Retina & Vitreous of Texas in Houston. During fellowship, Dr. Reed served as a sub-investigator in clinical trials for emerging treatments in macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. He joined Retina Specialists of North Alabama in 2022 and provides compassionate, evidence-based care for patients across North Alabama, with prompt access for urgent retinal problems. Patients appreciate his clear communication, careful surgical planning, and family-centered approach.
