Dr. James Byrne

Dr. James B. Byrne Jr. is a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina specialist practicing in Huntsville, Alabama. He lives in Huntsville with his wife, Ana, who is a clinical psychologist, and they enjoy watching their two sons grow into productive young men.

Dr. Byrne was born in Miami, Florida. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Florida State University in 1978 and then attended the University of Miami for medical school, graduating in 1982. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Miami School of Medicine and an ophthalmology residency at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and the Eye Foundation Hospital. He then completed a fellowship in retina and vitreous at Retina and Vitreous Associates of Alabama.

Dr. Byrne is board certified in both internal medicine (1985) and ophthalmology (1988). He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, and the Madison County Medical Society.
