About Me
Dr. William R. Freeman is a Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology and the Vice-Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at UC San Diego, where he also serves as the Director of the Jacobs Retina Center and Co-Director of the Retina Division. He is board certified in ophthalmology and completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery, focusing his expertise on retinal conditions.
Dr. Freeman's clinical practice and research are dedicated to treating complex retinal diseases that cause vision loss. His primary interests include complicated retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, and age-related macular degeneration. He leads a research team at the Jacobs Retina Center, a clinical trial center where patients can access advanced diagnostic equipment and promising new therapies for retinal diseases.
With over 600 peer-reviewed publications and continuous NIH grant funding for more than 25 years, Dr. Freeman is a recognized leader in his field.
