About Me
Dr. Jacob S. Heng is a vitreoretinal surgeon and physician-scientist who treats the full spectrum of adult retinal disease. He specializes in macular and peripheral pathology—including AMD, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachments, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and complex cases such as proliferative vitreoretinopathy and secondary intraocular lens problems. He is known for thoughtful counseling and meticulous surgical technique.
Dr. Heng earned his MD at the University of Glasgow, completed ophthalmology residency at Yale—serving as chief resident—and trained in vitreoretinal surgery at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins. He also holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, with research focused on mechanisms that protect the blood-retinal barrier. As an assistant professor of clinical ophthalmology, he combines evidence-based care with compassionate communication, working with patients to choose treatments that protect vision and support daily life.
