Dr. Marissa Shoji

Dr. Wang is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon caring for adults with diseases of the retina, macula, and vitreous. Raised in the Bay Area, he earned a BS in bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley (Highest Honors), completed medical school at Harvard, and stayed at Massachusetts Eye and Ear for both ophthalmology residency and a retina fellowship. He has served on the faculty at Yale and is now an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF, where he teaches residents and vitreoretinal surgery fellows.At Northern California Retina Vitreous Associates, Dr. Wang treats age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachments, macular pucker and holes, vein occlusions, and inflammatory retinal disease. He has particular expertise with optical coherence tomography angiography and brings a research-informed, compassionate approach to patient care. Dr. Joseph Chen is a board-certified glaucoma and cataract surgeon at DLV Vision who blends precision surgery with a warm, down-to-earth style of care. He graduated from Stanford University and earned his MD at Baylor College of Medicine, where he also completed ophthalmology residency. He then pursued fellowship training in glaucoma at the Moran Eye Center (University of Utah) under the late Dr. Alan Crandall, a world-renowned cataract and glaucoma surgeon. Since 2014, Dr. Chen has cared for patients across Ventura County.Dr. Chen offers a full spectrum of options—from laser-assisted cataract surgery with advanced lens implants to minimally invasive and complex glaucoma procedures. He tailors every plan to the patient’s vision goals, discussing risks, benefits, and recovery in plain language and coordinating convenient follow-up. His goal is simple: clearer vision, safer surgery, and fewer drops when possible.

Dr. Benyam Kinde is a neuro-ophthalmologist who cares for the intricate connections between the brain and vision. He evaluates and treats double vision and adult strabismus, anisocoria and nystagmus, optic nerve disorders, thyroid eye disease, and conditions marked by high intracranial pressure such as idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). His practice combines careful neurologic examination with targeted imaging and multidisciplinary collaboration to restore function and reduce visual disability. Dr. Kinde received his MD from Harvard Medical School and completed a PhD at Harvard University before ophthalmology residency at the University of California, San Francisco. He then pursued fellowship training in neuro-ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. In clinic he emphasizes clear communication and practical plans, whether prescribing prisms, managing medical therapy, or offering adult strabismus surgery when appropriate. He is committed to timely diagnoses, thoughtful counseling, and compassionate care for patients navigating complex neuro-visual symptoms.
