Dr. Stuart McFarland

Stuart McFarland, MD, is a vitreoretinal surgeon at the University of Mississippi Medical Center who cares for patients with diseases of the retina and vitreous. He treats retinal tears and detachments, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and other complex retinal disorders using the latest imaging, lasers, and intravitreal therapies. Dr. McFarland focuses on clear explanations and thoughtful follow-up so patients and families understand each step of their care.

Dr. McFarland completed his ophthalmology residency at UMMC and a Retina & Vitreous Surgery fellowship at UMMC. He earned his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine and completed his undergraduate studies at Auburn University. In addition to clinical care, he has contributed to quality-improvement efforts within the department aimed at reducing cost and surgical waste in cataract surgery. He welcomes referrals for both urgent retinal problems and second-opinion evaluations.
