Dr. Sara Fard is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon caring for patients with medical and surgical retinal disease. Born in Iran and raised in Toronto, she brings a global perspective and a strong academic foundation to her practice. Dr. Fard completed undergraduate studies in Physiology and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto, earned her MD at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and discovered a passion for retina during clinical training. She completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and a rigorous two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Louisville, serving as the sole fellow in a high-volume program. Patients describe her as steady, detailed, and empathetic. She treats complex conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and retinal detachment and believes in prevention, precision, and clear communication at every visit. Dr. Fard joined Illinois Retina Associates in 2025 and sees patients in the Harvey and Rush locations.
