About Me

Dr. Natalie Huang is a retina specialist who combines rigorous clinical training with a research background in inherited retinal disease. She cares for patients with diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, macular holes and puckers, and vascular occlusions. In consultation, she reviews imaging with patients, explains why injections, laser, observation, or surgery are recommended, and sets expectations for recovery and follow-up.

Dr. Huang was born and raised in Hunan, China and moved to the U.S. to pursue higher education. She earned her Doctor in Medicine at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, completed her ophthalmology residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University, and pursued a retina research fellowship at the University of Minnesota followed by a clinical fellowship in medical retina at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. During her training, she received the VitreoRetinal Surgery Foundation Research Award for her research on patients with end-stage retinitis pigmentosa and the Award for Research Excellence during residency. She has published research in peer-reviewed journals and values making complex findings understandable.

In 2022, Dr. Huang was recognized by the Journal of VitreoRetinal Diseases with the Distinguished Contributor Award. Her approach emphasizes evidence-based care, careful monitoring, and clear communication with patients and referring doctors. Outside of medicine, she enjoys traveling with her husband, practicing yoga and Pilates, and experimenting with new recipes.
