About Me
Dr. Maya Bitar is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who specializes in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery. With more than a decade of experience in academic centers, she previously served as an associate professor at George Washington University, where she taught future ophthalmologists and managed complex referrals from the DMV area. Dr. Bitar is recognized for her compassionate and thorough approach, believing in treating patients like family and providing personalized care.
Her clinical expertise includes extensive experience in various corneal transplantation techniques and corneal surgeries. Dr. Bitar is also an expert in cataract surgery, customizing surgical plans with the latest intraocular lens technology and combining procedures with minimally invasive glaucoma surgery when needed. She has a deep understanding of dry eye syndrome and offers comprehensive management, including in-office procedures.
Additionally, Dr. Bitar provides surgery for pterygiums and other ocular surface lesions, corneal cross-linking, and laser refractive surgery such as LASIK and PRK. She emphasizes safety and optimal outcomes based on ocular surface health. Fluent in English, French, and Arabic with basic Spanish, she brings a multicultural perspective to her practice.
