Dr. Matthew Trese

Dr. Matthew G.J. Trese is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist at Associated Retinal Consultants, serving patients in southeast Michigan. He specializes in vitreoretinal diseases, focusing on medical and surgical conditions of the retina and vitreous. His practice includes diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, macular holes, and retinal tears and detachments. He combines meticulous examination with the latest diagnostics and treatments, partnering with each patient to explain findings and map out practical, effective care plans.

Dr. Trese earned his Bachelor of Arts in Evolutionary, Population and Organismal Biology from the University of Colorado and his Master of Arts in Medical Sciences at Boston University. He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Michigan State University. He completed his Transitional Year Internship at Beaumont Hospital – Oakland University and his Ophthalmology Residency at Beaumont Eye Institute. He then completed a fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at Associated Retinal Consultants.

Dr. Trese has co-authored peer-reviewed publications, presented on various topics, and has participated in clinical research trials, reflecting his commitment to advancing retinal care while keeping patient experience at the center.
