About Me
Dr. Matthew G. Guess is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in retinal diseases and surgery, providing care at Alaska Retinal Consultants since 2016. His expertise includes managing complex conditions such as retinal detachment, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy, offering advanced vitreoretinal surgical interventions.
He completed his undergraduate education with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Bowling Green State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and earned his Medical Degree from the Medical College of Ohio. Dr. Guess further trained through a general surgery internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital, an ophthalmic pathology fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, an ophthalmology residency at Indiana University where he served as Chief Administrative Resident, and a specialized fellowship in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at Cincinnati Eye Institute.
Actively engaged in the ophthalmology community, Dr. Guess holds memberships in the American Society of Retina Specialists and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has contributed to medical leadership as the former Surgery Subsection Chair for Ophthalmology at Providence Medical Center and currently serves on the board of Geneva Woods Surgical Center. Prior to his current role, he provided comprehensive ophthalmological services in Anchorage from 2009 to 2016.
