About Me

Dr. Luis Martinez-Velazquez is a board-certified retina specialist who cares for adults with conditions affecting the retina and vitreous. He completed ophthalmology residency and a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School, where he served as Chief Fellow and received the Thomas J. Madden Fellowship in Retina. Before joining practice, he stayed on as staff at Mass Eye and Ear, teaching residents and medical students. His research as a principal investigator has been funded by the National Eye Institute, and his work appears in journals such as Retina, Ophthalmology Retina, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. In clinic and in the operating room, Dr. Martinez-Velazquez treats complex retinal detachments, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, and complications requiring secondary intraocular lens placement. He welcomes second opinions and works closely with referring doctors to ensure timely, compassionate care tailored to each patient’s goals.
