About Me
Dr. Kristen Hawthorne is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery, LASIK, and corneal diseases. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and she actively participates in corneal research and national presentations.
Dr. Hawthorne performs a wide range of advanced cornea, cataract, and anterior segment procedures, including corneal transplants (penetrating keratoplasty, endothelial keratoplasty, and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty), INTACS, and keratoprosthesis. She has particular expertise in treating corneal dystrophies such as Fuchs dystrophy, keratoconus, and corneal infections. Her special interests include hereditary corneal dystrophies, herpes zoster and herpes simplex eye infections, ocular surface disease, corneal scars, failed corneal transplants, and benign and malignant corneal and conjunctival tumors.
In addition to corneal and cataract surgery, Dr. Hawthorne offers refractive procedures like LASIK, PRK, limbal relaxing incisions, astigmatism-correcting lenses, accommodating and multifocal lenses, refractive lens exchange, and phakic IOLs. She also focuses on post-refractive cataract surgery. A Dallas native, she is dedicated to providing comprehensive eye care to patients in Austin and Kyle, Texas.
