About Me
Dr. Kathryn A. Colby is an ophthalmologist specializing in managing complex corneal disease at NYU Langone Eye Center. She treats a wide range of conditions including infections, keratoconus, ocular surface tumors, and Fuchs dystrophy. Dr. Colby pioneered Descemet stripping only (DSO), a surgical treatment for Fuchs dystrophy that uses the patient’s own cells to rejuvenate the cornea, reducing the need for donor tissue.
Dr. Colby believes in personalizing care for each patient and involving them as active participants in their treatment plan. She has extensive experience with the Boston keratoprosthesis for patients who cannot undergo traditional corneal transplant. In addition to her clinical work, she has authored numerous scientific studies and books, and lectures internationally on corneal topics.
Dr. Colby is the chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and holds the Elisabeth J. Cohen, M.D. Professor of Ophthalmology position. She is the immediate past president of the Cornea Society and is dedicated to advancing women in ophthalmology.
