About Me
Dr. John Kerrison is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula, as well as neuro-ophthalmology. A Charleston native, he completed his undergraduate education at The Citadel and earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. He received his ophthalmic training at Johns Hopkins Hospital's Wilmer Eye Institute, followed by fellowships in neuro-ophthalmology at Emory and retina and vitreous at Retina Consultants of South Carolina. After serving on active duty in the United States Air Force and returning to the faculty at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Kerrison joined Retina Consultants of South Carolina in private practice.
Dr. Kerrison has held assistant professor appointments in the Ophthalmology, Neurology, and Neurosurgery departments at Johns Hopkins. His NIH-sponsored research has focused on developing new therapies for retinal ganglion cell regeneration, and he has authored numerous academic papers and contributions to major ophthalmology textbooks. He continues to participate in clinical research trials within his practice.
Dr. Kerrison treats a wide range of conditions affecting the retina, vitreous, and macula, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, and retinal detachments. He also provides specialized care for neuro-ophthalmologic conditions. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has been board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology since 1997.
