Dr. Huy D. Nguyen is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon who treats the full range of medical and surgical retina conditions. His practice emphasizes patient-centered care and shared decision-making—explaining the diagnosis, reviewing options, and tailoring treatment to each person’s goals. Dr. Nguyen cares for adults and children, including complex cases referred from across South Texas, and collaborates closely with other specialists when systemic disease affects the eyes. He completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and a surgical retina fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. In addition to clinical care, Dr. Nguyen serves as adjunct faculty for resident and fellow education and has published research on diabetic retinopathy, quality improvement, and medical devices. He is conversationally fluent in Vietnamese and Spanish and enjoys engaging families in their preferred language to support understanding and comfort throughout care.
