About Me
Dr. Weichel is a retina specialist and vitreoretinal surgeon dedicated to helping patients understand their eye conditions and actively participate in their care. He treats a range of retinal disorders, including retinal detachments, epiretinal membranes, macular edema, and complications from eye injuries, using advanced surgical techniques to achieve the best possible visual outcomes. With a philosophy centered on patient education and partnership, Dr. Weichel works closely with each person to create a personalized treatment plan.
Dr. Weichel earned his medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and completed an internal medicine internship at Tripler Army Medical Center before training in ophthalmology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He then pursued a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Wills Eye Hospital. Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and an assistant professor at Uniformed Services University, he draws on extensive experience from over a decade of military service, including serving as Director of Vitreoretinal Surgery at Walter Reed.
An active researcher, Dr. Weichel has contributed to numerous studies and journal articles on topics such as combat-related eye injuries, epiretinal membranes, and cataract formation after vitrectomy. He is a member of several professional organizations and remains committed to advancing the field of retina care while providing compassionate, comprehensive treatment to every patient.
