About Me
Dr. David F. Skanchy is a fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologist who cares for children with the full spectrum of eye conditions and adults with strabismus. He earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, and completed ophthalmology residency followed by a pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus fellowship at the Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan, serving as chief resident. Patients and families value his calm, clear explanations and his focus on practical, evidence-based care.
At Pediatric Eye Specialists, Dr. Skanchy treats everything from routine pediatric eye problems to complex misalignment and vision development issues. He also manages trauma-related concerns and partners closely with NICUs and pediatricians for conditions like retinopathy of prematurity. Dedicated to education and service, he has taught residents, published in peer-reviewed journals, and volunteered to expand access to pediatric eye care. His goal is to help every child see comfortably and confidently while supporting parents at every step.
