About Me
Dr. Daniel Montenegro is a fellowship-trained cornea and external disease surgeon who specializes in advanced refractive cataract, glaucoma, and pterygium surgery. He founded Bayside Ophthalmology in 2025 to provide personalized care for patients in his community. With over seven years of experience, he has helped restore vision by treating complex cataract and cornea diseases.
A proud native of Venezuela, Dr. Montenegro is fluent in both Spanish and English, making him accessible to a diverse patient population. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit and pursued a cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery fellowship at the Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City. He has served as an assistant professor of ophthalmology at Kresge Eye Institute, directing the cornea service and training future surgeons, and provided medical services to veterans at the John Dingell VA Hospital.
Dr. Montenegro has performed over 10,000 procedures, including cataract surgery and cornea transplants, and is one of the first surgeons in Florida to implant advanced presbyopia-correcting lenses like the Tecnis Symfony and Odyssey IOLs. He also has extensive experience in pterygium excision with a low recurrence rate. His approach emphasizes compassionate, ethical care tailored to each patient's unique needs.
