About Me
Dr. Austen Knapp is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon who cares for the full spectrum of medical and surgical retina conditions. She completed ophthalmology residency at Cleveland Clinic's Cole Eye Institute and advanced vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford University. In addition to an active clinical practice, Dr. Knapp has contributed to research in leading journals and shared her work at national meetings including ASRS, ARVO, and the AAO. She enjoys mentoring trainees and completed a two-year leadership program in medical education.
Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Knapp is excited to serve patients across West Michigan with personalized, evidence-based care. She is committed to improving access to retinal care locally and abroad, including developing and teaching a laser for diabetic retinopathy course implemented for residents in Ghana. Outside the clinic and OR, she enjoys traveling, outdoor activities, reading, and time with her fiancée, two cats, family, and friends.
