About Me
Dr. Angela Verkade is a cornea and cataract surgeon at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center. She cares for patients with a wide range of corneal and ocular surface conditions as well as age-related cataracts. After training in ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine, where she served as chief resident, she completed a cornea fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. She then practiced for a year at Duke Eye Center before returning to Michigan to join the Kellogg cornea faculty.
Dr. Verkade offers both medical and surgical options tailored to each patient’s goals. Her expertise includes full- and partial-thickness corneal transplantation (including DMEK), advanced cataract surgery, and secondary intraocular lens solutions. She also performs corneal cross-linking, refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK), and pterygium and ocular surface reconstruction using amniotic membrane when appropriate. Patients value her clear explanations, collaborative decision-making, and focus on long-term ocular surface health and vision.
