About Me
Dr. Amy Hennessy is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in glaucoma and cataract surgery. She has advanced training in cataract, glaucoma, and anterior segment disease, and she offers both routine and complex cataract surgery. Dr. Hennessy provides medical, laser, and surgical management of glaucoma, utilizing the latest technologies including laser treatments and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). She often combines MIGS with cataract surgery to lower eye pressure and protect vision. For advanced glaucoma, she performs more extensive procedures such as trabeculectomy and glaucoma tube shunt implants.
A native of Rhode Island, Dr. Hennessy graduated from Providence College and attended medical school at Brown University. She also holds a Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, where her research on ocular trauma in rural Nepal received a Capstone Award for Outstanding Achievement. She completed her ophthalmology residency at Virginia Commonwealth University and a glaucoma fellowship in Baltimore. Dr. Hennessy has published many peer-reviewed articles and presented at national conferences on glaucoma patient compliance with eyedrop instillation. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Glaucoma Society.
Dr. Hennessy has been recognized by her peers as one of New Hampshire Magazine’s “Top Doctors” in Ophthalmology for multiple consecutive years. She and her family returned to New England after practicing in Maryland and California, and she enjoys traveling, exploring new restaurants, outdoor adventures with her family, and riding her Peloton bike.
