Meet Dr. Allen Chiang
About Me
Dr. Allen Chiang is a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina specialist at Mid Atlantic Retina and Wills Eye Hospital. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brown University and earned his M.D. from the New York University School of Medicine with distinction and selection into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed an internship at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego followed by ophthalmology residency at the Stein Eye Institute at the University of California at Los Angeles, where he was the recipient of two Stein resident awards: Excellence in Surgery and Excellence in Clinical Research. He then completed a two-year medical and surgical retina fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia and was recognized with the William Tasman, MD Outstanding Fellow Teaching Award.
From 2011 to 2013, Dr. Chiang was in private practice at East Bay Retina Consultants in the San Francisco Bay area and was named a Top Doctor by Oakland Magazine. In 2013, he returned to Philadelphia to join the Wills Eye Hospital Retina Service and Mid Atlantic Retina. He has garnered recognition as a Top Doctor by the Pennsylvania Medical Society, Philadelphia Magazine, and Castle Connolly. As a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Thomas Jefferson University, he contributes to the education and training of the next generation of ophthalmologists and retina specialists.
Dr. Chiang is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, Montgomery County Medical Society, Vit-Buckle Society, and an elected member of the prestigious Retina Society. He is a recognized Fellow of the ASRS. He has authored over 100 scientific publications, abstracts, editorials, and textbook chapters on vitreoretinal diseases and is an invited manuscript referee for major journals such as Ophthalmology Retina and the American Journal of Ophthalmology. Motivated to develop new therapies for retinal diseases, he is actively involved as a clinical investigator in the retina research unit at Wills Eye in numerous clinical trials and studies on conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
