Dr. Yu Zhao

Dr. Yu Cheng Zhao is a retina specialist at the University of Michigan’s Kellogg Eye Center. He diagnoses and treats the full spectrum of medical and surgical retinal disease, with expertise in age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular edema, inherited retinal disorders, and pediatric retinal disease. In clinic, Dr. Zhao emphasizes careful imaging, plain-language education, and stepwise plans that balance effectiveness, safety, and convenience. He completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan, followed by fellowships in retinal diseases and surgical retina at Michigan Medicine after earning his medical degree from Yale University. Dr. Zhao sees patients at Kellogg Eye Center locations and collaborates across subspecialties to provide comprehensive vision care. His goal is to help each patient preserve or restore sight with the least disruptive, most evidence-based therapy available.
