About Me

Dr. Viren K. Govindaraju is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery. He cares for adults across southeastern Michigan and emphasizes clear communication, collaborative decision-making, and evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each patient’s goals. His clinical interests include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, macular holes, retinal tears and detachments, and retinal vein occlusions. He is an active member of national retina societies and has presented research nationally and internationally. Dr. Govindaraju completed ophthalmology residency and chief residency at Oakland University William Beaumont Hospital before a vitreoretinal fellowship with Associated Retinal Consultants at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital. He earned his MD from Central Michigan University College of Medicine and a BS with honors in Biochemistry and Chemistry from the University of Washington. He has authored peer-reviewed publications and was recognized by the Journal of VitreoRetinal Diseases as a distinguished contributor, reflecting a commitment to advancing retinal care alongside attentive, patient-centered practice.
