About Me
Dr. Touka Banaee is a vitreoretinal specialist at UTMB Health and an associate professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, where she also serves as director of the Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship. She treats the full spectrum of vitreoretinal disease—such as diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, age-related macular degeneration, and disorders of the vitreomacular interface—and sees patients at the Eye Centers in Galveston and Victory Lakes. Dr. Banaee completed medical school and ophthalmology residency at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in Iran, followed by vitreoretinal fellowships at Labbafinejad Medical Center/Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran and at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. With more than two decades of clinical experience, numerous invited presentations, and over 55 peer-reviewed publications, she brings deep expertise and a commitment to research-informed, compassionate care.
