About Me

Dr. Todd J. Purkiss is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal diseases at Retina Associates of Kentucky. He cares for patients with a wide range of retinal conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachments, macular holes, macular edema, retinal vein occlusions, vitreous hemorrhage, and floaters. His extensive training includes a Ph.D. in Perception and Sensory Physiology, where he studied retinal circuits and visual processing, providing him with a deep understanding of the retina's structure and function.

Dr. Purkiss completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Louisville, where he served as Chief Resident, followed by a fellowship in Medical Retina at Duke Eye Center. He is also an active member of several professional organizations and has served as a delegate to the Kentucky Medical Association. Outside of his clinical practice, Dr. Purkiss is dedicated to his family and enjoys playing the drums.
