About Me
Dr. Timothy B. Cavanaugh is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist at Cavanaugh Eye Center in Overland Park, Kansas. He specializes in corneal procedures, LASIK, and cataract surgery, having performed over 25,000 laser vision correction procedures for nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
In practice since 1991, Dr. Cavanaugh has been a noted innovator in ophthalmology. He participated as a key study investigator helping refractive lasers gain approval in the United States and was the first surgeon in the region to use the microkeratome in modern LASIK. His areas of expertise include the treatment of cataracts, dry eye, presbyopia, and pterygium, as well as corneal crosslinking and blepharoplasty.
Dr. Cavanaugh earned his medical degree and completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Kansas, where he served as Chief Resident. He then pursued a fellowship in advanced corneal and refractive surgery at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is an active teacher and lecturer and has been recognized by his peers, including being voted one of the top two ophthalmologists in Kansas City by area physicians.
