Meet Dr. Steven Maskin
About Me
Dr. Steven L. Maskin is an ophthalmologist who has dedicated his career to the diagnosis and treatment of Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and dry eye syndrome. He is the inventor of intraductal Meibomian gland probing, a breakthrough procedure that reverses the constriction of Meibomian glands and has transformed the lives of patients suffering from severe, intractable eye pain. His research confirmed the role of periductal fibrosis in MGD, leading to six U.S. patents and over 22 scientific publications.
Dr. Maskin completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas in San Antonio and then pursued a three-year fellowship in Dry Eye, Eye Surface Diseases, and Cornea at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. He founded the Dry Eye and Cornea Treatment Center in Tampa in 1991, where he focuses exclusively on conditions of the eye surface and cornea. His practice manages a wide range of disorders, including pterygium, conjunctival tumors, corneal ulcers, and keratoconus, with a particular emphasis on MGD and dry eye.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Maskin is a full professor at the University of South Florida, where he mentors medical and engineering students. He has been recognized by his peers as a Best Doctor in America and is a founding member of the International Ocular Surface Society. Through his biotech startup, MGDinnovations, he aims to make his innovative treatments available to eye doctors and patients worldwide.
