About Me
Dr. Stephen Couvillion is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery. He received his medical degree from Tulane University and completed his ophthalmology residency at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, where he was involved in the initial clinical application of Avastin for age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Couvillion further completed a vitreoretinal fellowship at Bascom Palmer, an institution foundational to modern vitreoretinal surgery.
Dr. Couvillion has served as Chief Resident and Co-Director of Ocular Trauma at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, training both residents and fellows in the latest therapeutic techniques. He is an investigator in clinical trials for macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy and his research has been published in several leading ophthalmic journals. His clinical expertise includes macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and ocular trauma.
Dr. Couvillion is a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He provides comprehensive medical and surgical retina care, focusing on advanced treatments for retinal vascular diseases, vitreoretinal interface abnormalities, and complications of eye surgery.
