About Me
Dr. Samir N. Patel is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon at Mid Atlantic Retina who cares for patients with the full spectrum of medical and surgical retinal disease. A Philadelphia native, he treats conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, retinal vein occlusions, retinal detachment, and retinopathy of prematurity, as well as other complex disorders affecting the macula and retina.
Dr. Patel graduated with the Highest Honors from Pennsylvania State University before earning his medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed a transitional year at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, followed by ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal surgery fellowship training at Wills Eye Hospital.
In addition to his busy clinical and surgical practice, Dr. Patel is deeply involved in clinical trials and research on macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vein occlusion, retinal detachment, and gene therapy. He has authored numerous publications and textbook chapters and serves as a reviewer and editor for leading ophthalmology journals and the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Global Ophthalmology Guide.
