About Me
Dr. Samir Patel is a Philadelphia-native ophthalmologist who is board-certified and specializes in vitreoretinal surgery. He graduated with Highest Honors from Pennsylvania State University and earned his medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College, where he was selected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. After a transitional year at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, he completed his ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital.
Dr. Patel is an active member of professional organizations including the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, the Vit-Buckle Society, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Retina Specialists. He contributes to ophthalmology as a scientific reviewer for journals such as JAMA Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology, and RETINA, and serves as an Assistant Editor for the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Global Ophthalmology Guide.
He is actively involved as an investigator in clinical trials focusing on age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, retinal detachment, and gene therapy. With over 100 publications and textbook chapters, he presents research nationally and focuses on treatments for conditions like diabetic macular edema, retinal vein occlusion, retinopathy of prematurity, and employs innovative vitreoretinal surgical techniques.
