Dr. Michael Klufas graduated Magna Cum Laude with Honors in Neuroscience from Brown University and earned his Doctor of Medicine with honors from Weill Cornell Medical College. He completed his ophthalmology residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell, where he received the Weill Cornell Resident Research Award and the Distinguished Housestaff Award. His vitreoretinal surgery fellowship was at Jules Stein Eye Institute/UCLA, recognized with the Thelma and William Brand Fellow and Abe Meyer Memorial Fellow honors.
Dr. Klufas is board certified in ophthalmology and serves on the Retina Service at Wills Eye Hospital as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. He is a member of several professional societies and has authored over 75 scientific publications, serving as a manuscript reviewer for leading journals and as Retina Chief for EyeTube.net.
His clinical interests focus on treating age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and macular edema, retinal vein occlusions, macular holes, retinal detachments, and other vitreoretinal diseases. He is actively involved in clinical trials and studies on gene therapy and inherited retinal disorders, with an emphasis on retinal imaging and innovative surgical techniques.
