About Me
Sami H. Uwaydat, M.D., is an ophthalmologist with the Harvey and Bernice Jones Eye Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). He is also an associate professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the UAMS College of Medicine. Dr. Uwaydat specializes in retinal diseases, with clinical interests including repair of retinal detachments, treatment of age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, and management of retinal infections and inflammations.
He earned his medical degree from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. Dr. Uwaydat completed his ophthalmology residency at UAMS, where he received the Raymond and Mary Morris Residency Research Award, achieving both first and second place. Additionally, he completed a residency in ophthalmology and an internship in surgery at the American University of Beirut.
His advanced training includes a Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship in Galveston, Texas, and a Medical Retina Fellowship at New York University. Dr. Uwaydat is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, which supports his commitment to eye care.
