About Me
Dr. Richard Lewis is an ophthalmologist specializing in medical ophthalmology. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, which underscores his commitment to excellence in eye care.
Dr. Lewis earned his medical degree from Oregon Health and Science University. He then completed an internship and residency in Family Practice at Ventura County Medical Center in California, practicing general medicine in Oregon for two years. His dedication to service led him to Afghanistan, where he worked with a non-governmental organization to provide medical care among internal refugees and helped establish one of the first community development programs in the country.
Upon returning to the U.S., Dr. Lewis completed a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He then returned to Afghanistan to serve as the medical director of the national eye program for eight years, training Afghan physicians and treating patients at the University Eye Hospital in Kabul. This extensive experience enriches his approach to patient care.
