About Me
Dr. Nicole Pumariega is a vitreoretinal surgeon who cares for adults with medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous. As an assistant professor at the WVU Eye Institute, she treats common and complex conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, macular holes and puckers, retinal tears, and retinal detachment. Her approach combines detailed imaging, clear communication, and evidence-based therapies—including office-based injections and lasers as well as advanced operating-room procedures—to help patients maintain or recover sight. Dr. Pumariega completed ophthalmology residency at Drexel University College of Medicine and a fellowship at West Virginia University Hospitals, where she now practices. She partners closely with each person to craft a plan that fits their diagnosis, lifestyle, and goals, and she values long-term follow-up to monitor healing and protect vision over time. Patients can expect compassionate, step-by-step guidance from first evaluation through recovery.
