Dr. Michael Salter

Dr. Michael W. Salter is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist caring for patients in North Alabama. Born and raised in Birmingham, he completed both undergraduate and medical training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, then went on to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for ophthalmology residency and a glaucoma fellowship. He has been on staff at the Eye Surgery Center of North Alabama since 2016.Dr. Salter is known for state-of-the-art, stitchless surgical and laser techniques tailored to each patient’s needs. His expertise includes minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (iStent, ABiC, GATT), MicroPulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (mTSCPC), and in-office laser procedures, along with comprehensive cataract care and YAG capsulotomy when needed after cataract surgery. Patients appreciate his clear communication, practical counseling on options, and focus on safety and long-term pressure control to preserve sight.
