Dr. Michael Shapiro

Dr. Michael J. Shapiro is a retina specialist at Retina Consultants, Ltd., with offices in Des Plaines, Libertyville, and Skokie, Illinois. With over 35 years of experience, he treats a wide range of retinal conditions including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, retinopathy of prematurity, and retinoblastoma. Dr. Shapiro has particular expertise in complex retinal surgery and pediatric retina, often taking on cases that have not responded to standard treatments.

Dr. Shapiro completed his medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, followed by an ophthalmology residency at the University of Chicago and a fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is known for his compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.
