Dr. Maria Paula Fernandez is a board-certified medical and surgical retina specialist who treats complex disorders of the retina and vitreous. She offers comprehensive, evidence-based care for retinal detachment, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes and epiretinal membranes, and retinal vascular disease. Fluent in English and Spanish, she takes time to answer questions and tailor plans to each patient’s needs and comfort.
Dr. Fernandez completed medical school at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. She trained in ophthalmology at Louisiana State University, where she served as chief resident, followed by an ocular pathology fellowship and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Her practice combines state-of-the-art surgical techniques with compassionate communication to help patients protect and preserve vision.
